Emmy awards & season premieres

Being the t.v. geek that I am, I stayed up later than usual on a Sunday night, watching the Emmy Awards, then watched my PVR recording of Lost Girl (s.2, ep.3) – and it was a night of spectacle, surprise and gorgeousness.

Aside from the glamour parade that is the red carpet (and why is it they rarely ask the guys who they’re wearing?), the Emmys were hosted by the amazingly funny Jane Lynch, who was a one-woman glamour parade with the costume changes in and out of a few fabulous gowns (and the black suit for the accountant intro was fabulous as well). I loved that they had the nominees for Best Lead Actress in a Comedy all come up on stage in a fun spoof of beauty pageant finalists – and surprise (but awesome), Melissa McCarthy won!

Mad Men and Modern Family came up big in the awards, and Downton Abbey came out from virtual underdog status to win Best Writing (Julian Fellowes), Best Supporting Actress (Maggie Smith) and Best Miniseries in the Miniseries, Movie or Dramatic Special category. Shouts to Kate Winslet for winning Best Lead Actress in a Miniseries – and for that gorgeous red gown. By way of confession, during Winslet’s red carpet interview, I was barely able to take my eyes off her cleavage. I blame the dress. Case in point:

As for season premieres, Lost Girl had its season two premiere a few weeks ago – and has some interesting developments unfolding. More premieres this week of some of my fave shows: Castle (tonight), Glee (Tuesday) and Grey’s Anatomy (Thursday), with more to come in the near future.
