Hugo is pure magic

Hey kids! Finally got back out to the movies yesterday and saw Hugo at the Varsity – and this is a film where the use of 3D technology actually adds to the presentation of the story (and not just to the box office receipts).

The opening sequence alone, as we travel through the train station that has become Hugo’s home, was sheer magic – you feel like you’re actually walking through those crowds in that lobby. And the journey is even more so. Love, friendship, loss, humour, art and adventure all combine in this incredibly touching, and sometimes funny, movie. Props to kid actors Asa Butterfield (Hugo) and Chloë Grace Moretz (Isabelle), and Ben Kingsley (Isabelle’s godfather Georges) and Sacha Baron Cohen (the station Inspector). In addition to the main plot, there are lovely little side stories about the various station employees and shop keepers – but I’ll let you check that out for yourselves.
