What a great weekend!
Friday night, met my pal Lizzie Violet at Shanghai Cowgirl for pints and onion rings (which are homemade there – and very tasty!), then we wandered around the corner of Bathurst and Queen West to Cherry Cola’s to see Meghan Morrison and her band perform. And drink more beer. The theme was lace and bow ties – and Meghan, who is also a master button maker, gave us bow tie buttons to wear. Meghan and her band were awesomesauce and a bag of chips. She’s got this amazing, relaxed ‘tude, and watching her perform is like seeing Alanis Morrissette meets early Sarah McLachlan in Wonderland. Great night out – and it was cool to hang out at a venue I hadn’t been to before.
This afternoon, I finally saw Carnage at the TIFF Bell Lightbox, directed by Roman Polanski and based on the stage play The God of Carnage by Yasmina Reza. Powerful ensemble cast in this one: Jodi Foster, John C. Riley, Christoph Waltz and Kate Winslet. Brilliant and darkly funny look at modern civil savagery.
Reminded me that I really need to get out to see more movies – with all the theatre and live music, and even a bit more reading, these days I’ve been neglecting my movie theatre excursions.
Seen or heard anything you really like lately?
