Not your childhood princess story – The Princess of Porn

So I don’t normally need to do these here at life with more cowbell, but…

WARNING: This post contains adult language and content.

Okay, so now that you’ve been warned, here goes.

Vikki Velenosi’s play The Princess of Porn: The Musical, directed by Chelsea Ferrando, with “bow-chicka-wow-wow” (music?) by Adam Sakiyama and playing at the Randolph Theatre, is a tale of post-happily ever after, where some very recognizable princesses are finding themselves extremely disappointed and wondering what the heck they’re doing with their lives. All told in a decidedly sexy, adult content way. With song and dance numbers.

To help the princesses gain perspective and find some clues to assist them in their predicament, Fairy Godmother (Natasha Buckeridge) sends them to a strange land of two kingdoms: Porn and Babble. Princesses Rasmine (Andrea Brown), Pafunzel (Anita Nittoly), Bellemia (Nathalie Kraemer), Hariel (Sydney Dunitz), Snow Wheat (Saphire Demitro) and Hocapontas (Alison Blair) land in the Kingdom of Porn, encountering the sexy young Princess of Porn (Velenosi), her father the imperious King (David DiFrancesco), and their adorably shy and silent assistant Fluffer (Carolyn Lawrence). It is here that the princesses witness the Princess of Porn run away after a fight with dad over meeting her duties and expectations, then rescued in the wild by and falling in love with the handsome young Prince of Babble (Guy Bradford), much to the chagrin of his mother the Queen (Christian Jeffries).

While Rasmine has taken leadership of the visiting princesses, all want a piece of the prince and they end up divided as well, taking sides with the kingdoms, which go to war as they reject their heirs’ love. But don’t worry, it all works out in the end, with some surprising and fun revelations along the way.

An extremely sexy romp, complete with naughty songs and choreography, including one memorable number featuring dildos, as well as fabulous costuming (Megan Campagnolo). Cast stand-outs for me were Buckeridge’s cheeky Fairy Godmother, Brown’s sexy and smart leader Rasmine, Lawrence’s adorably sweet and love-sick Fluffer, and Jeffries’ hilarious panto turn as the Queen of Babble.

There’s a super fuckin happy ever after time to be had. The Princess of Porn has one final show at the Randolph Theatre tonight at 7:30 p.m. Definitely pre-order or line up early for this one, folks – the house was packed last night.
